Did you know?

A rise in advanced driver-assistance systems

Nowadays, nearly all new vehicle models, including economy cars, are equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems. It is said that by 2020, one in four vehicles on the road will come with these systems. Some industry experts even think that people will drive fully autonomous vehicles by 2035.

Windshield integrated cameras: a feature used by many advanced driver-assistance systems

Single or double cameras are coupled with sensors (ultrasonic, detection and LIDAR or light detection and radar) in advanced driver-assistance systems. Usually, the superior part of the interior windshield is where the camera is installed. To make sure the driver-assistance system performs as expected, the camera should undergo a recalibration whenever a windshield needs to be replaced.

Cameras can be recalibrated in three ways

  1. Static recalibration: Carried out in Speedy Glass® service centres with the following equipment: measurement lasers, various targets, and an exclusive Bosch® tool.
  2. Dynamic recalibration: On-road operation carried out using an exclusive tool developed by Bosch®, that can be connected to the vehicle’s computer and that configures the scan settings while the car is in motion.
  3. Universal recalibration: Static and dynamic recalibration combined.
