What are the different ways of recalibrating advanced driver-assistance systems?
As of today, static and dynamic are the two ways of recalibrating advanced driver-assistance systems. In some cases, the two methods need to be used. We perform static calibration at our service centres with the help of targets and patented tools. As for dynamic calibration, the camera is recalibrated while the technician is driving the vehicle. Complete recalibration is achieved by using both processes and is referred to as universal calibration.
According to some automakers, camera recalibration is necessary after the replacement of a windshield, and should be made at one of their dealerships. Is this true or false?
This is false. As a matter of fact, in 2012, the Dutch advertising code authority ordered a car manufacturer (Volvo) to retract this declaration and recognize not just dealers but technicians (like those at Speedy Glass®) as capable of safely replacing windshields that come with a camera.
